Graves & Beginnings Part I
Scene 1: The Graveyard - A Silent Promise
ELIZA:
Here you lie, as promised, still and cold,
Your vow to me, a love too fierce to hold.
I thought my heart could walk away, unbound,
But in the grave, your love’s still all around.
---
AGNES:
Why do you stay, here where the shadows creep?
The love you mourn is gone, though it may weep.
Why stand by death, when life still calls your name?
Let go of grief, and leave behind the flame.
---
ELIZA:
I cannot leave, not yet, for here I see,
His love for me, as deep as any sea.
He promised me, though death might pull him near,
That without me, his soul would disappear.
---
AGNES:
But love is not a thing that stays to grieve,
It lets us go, it lets us breathe and leave.
His soul is still, his body cold and still,
Yet you remain, as if you bend to will.
---
ELIZA:
You cannot know, for love such as this,
Is not a gift that fades in death’s cold kiss.
He swore to me, in life, he’d stay apart,
That without me, he’d die—my broken heart.
---
Scene 2: The Ghost Appears
GHOST OF HENRY:
I swore, my love, I’d die if you should go,
And here I lie, to prove that promise true below.
Did I not love thee? Was it all for naught?
My love for thee, a thing that can’t be bought.
---
ELIZA:
Your love was deep, but not enough to stay,
I left you once, and now you fade away.
Was I not worth the promise you did make?
Can love not live if hearts do break?
---
GHOST OF HENRY:
I am still with thee, though flesh may fade,
My love remains, undying, undismayed.
I asked for death, but love did not take me,
I wait for you, though you don’t see me.
---
AGNES:
I cannot watch you drown in endless grief,
He’s gone, my friend, it’s time to find relief.
His love for you, though true, must set you free,
The past is gone—come, live, and you shall see.
---
Scene 3: The Final Realization
ELIZA:
Perhaps, my friend, thou speaks a truth untold,
That love is something we must let unfold.
I’ll hold him close, but set my heart to free,
And live, as I know you would want of me.
---
AGNES:
Now let us go, for life still calls our name,
The past is gone, and we must rise from shame.
His love was true, but love should let us soar,
So walk with me, and live forevermore.
---
